Do you have a JOYFUL story about caring for a loved one with brain impairment or dementia caused by Alzheimer’s, stroke, related illness, or trauma?
Do you have a photo of a JOYFUL time with a loved one with a brain impairing illness or disease?Dear Caregiver:I invite you to submit your work for consideration in Finding the JOY in Caregiving, Volume 3 of our Finding the JOY series of titles.
Your JOYFUL stories and photos will help bring hope, strength, and JOY to caregivers around the world while raising funds for caregiving causes.
The Criteria for your JOYFUL submission are:
- Length: Stories should be 250 – 1,000 words (half to two single-spaced pages).
- Format: Attach your documents as .doc or rtf files and your photos as 300 dpi .jpg files.
- Subjective Criteria: Caregivers around the world should feel JOY when reading your story. Their hearts should fill with hope and JOY when looking at your photo.
- Descriptive Criteria: Your story must contain enough vivid detail so someone who doesn’t know you feels s/he is living the experience. Your photo must capture the essence of JOY.
There are a lot of people who are really struggling with the diagnosis of dementia, and being able to read about others’ insights and ability to laugh at things that are not usually a laughing matter is truly important. The only people I know who “do well” with a loved one who has dementia are the ones who can see the “joy” in it, as your books show.
